How To Find Your Style? A Deep Dive Into Aesthetics
We talk a lot about finding your style here, and it's no secret that, as professional stylist's we believe it's your first step to feeling fabulous every day!
Here, we're going to go over a few different aesthetics you might want to "try on" for size, to see if they suit you.
It's impossible to know what you like without knowing what you dislike. Try breaking out of your comfort zone, and you're bound to make some great discoveries about your taste.
Odds are, your aesthetic preferences are already hidden in your wardrobe. All that's left to do is find ways to bring them together cohesively and seamlessly.
What First Steps Should You Take To Find Your Aesthetic?
Find Images that embody the different versions of yourself. I like to say that we all have three people in our closet. These three are the various styles we are drawn to naturally. We tend to buy these over and over again.
Let's start with some examples:
This aesthetic is all about the Ralph Lauren aesthetic. Classic, all-American, prep, and luxurious fabrics. This style evokes a sense of timelessness, sophistication, and rugged adventure. Picture a woman who rides horses at her lake house over the weekend, and then trades off her riding boots for a pair of spotless loafers.
Sounds intimidating, but this style is shockingly easy to incorporate into your everyday looks. The key is LESS, not more. Like with most aesthetics, overdo it, and you'll immediately look like you're in costume.
Ralph Lauren is a mix of soft neutrals, rich leather, and layered basics.
How Do You Dress for A Romantic/Soft Aesthetic?
The romantic woman doesn't lose her edge in the office by leaning into her feminine side. This look prioritizes movement, ruffles, texture, and silky softness without minimizing your power.
Girly doesn't have to mean delicate or impractical!
Think flow-y skirts, wrap dresses, loose blouses, bows, delicate details, and soft knits in pastels, chiffons, or warm-neutral colors.
How To Dress Like a Casual-Cool Girl
This is the woman at the office who, despite being impossible to reach on Slack, always delivers on time.
She's effortless, chic, down-to-earth, and somehow Parisian. Think relaxed trousers, simple high-quality tees, denim, and oversized knits in neutral, earthy tones.
How do You Describe The Drama-Queen Aesthetic?
Time to talk about the diva of the office. She's bold, intentional, and unapologetic.
This aesthetic is all about confidence, commanding a space, and a bold personality to match. Think strong silhouettes, sharp shoulders, bold color contrasts, and statement hardware. Diva's are drawn to materials like leather, satin, wool, or heavy crepe.
Tailoring is a must (it should be for ALL of you, but for this one, it's non-negotiable).
Different aesthetics and styles are inspiration, not requirements. Think of them as tools to curate. Choose 2-3 and explore what you like and works for you.
