I'm A Dirty Little Secret

Most of my styling clients don’t tell people about me. A lot of my clients are really, really private people.

Like here’s the pics I can share from when I was in LA styling Saudi royalty for her press features.

Others just don’t want people to know they hired a stylist. I’m hidden from colleagues, acquaintances, and sometimes even family.

One time, I was invited to an event that my client was hosting. One of her guests was also my client. When the host asked the man how we knew each other, I smiled when he said “mutual friends from college”. I never reveal my clients' work with me, unless they do. (Or they give permission.)

Why do some clients not talk about it? There are many reasons.

  • Some people don’t want people to judge them for working with a stylist.

  • Our society acts like dressing well should come naturally to everyone just because we put clothes on every day.

  • People don’t want to appear "trying too hard", vain or superficial, or elitist for wanting to dress well.

  • People worry telling people they have a stylist will make them seem less grounded or real.

  • Some people want to keep me a secret because they’d rather the world believe they did it all on their own.

  • Others are high profile or require discretion from people who come into their homes and sharing their lives with a service provider.

I love that my clients have amazing outfits and like to take credit when they get complimented.

I’m their dirty little secret. And I don’t mind.
